Most histories date Clan Skene to approximately the seventh century. The Clan and it's septs are authentic Highlanders in every respect, even boasting of Pict ancestors. Septs of Clan Skene are several distinguished families, including Carnie, Carriston, Curriehill, Dyas, Dyce, Dyess, Hall, Halyard, Halliard, Pinkieslaw, Rubislaw, MacGalliard, Rennie, Rannie, and Yyel. Due to time and changes in the language, there are several spellings of the family names. For example, Skene has evolved to Skean, Scense, Skeen, and Skain, among others. This should hardly be surprising, since Skene itself is another spelling of sgian.  Clan Skene extends a welcoming hand and warm greeting to all who carry the distinguished Highland names of our Clan and its Septs.
